South West Group - Meeting - 07 July 2008
A meeting of the South West branch of the Records Management Society was held at the Wiltshire and Swindon History centre on 7th July. The theme of the meeting was Records from Audit to Archive. The meeting was sponsored by Active Navigation Ltd and was also open to non RMS members.
There were nearly 30 delegates from diverse organisations spread over a large area of the South West and beyond. Bodies represented included Devon County Council, the Audit Commission, Rhondda Cynon Taff DC and Salisbury DC. There was a large contingent from Wiltshire County Council (looking for a free lunch!).
There were four main presentations, one each from Active Navigation and the Audit Commission and two from Wiltshire County Council.
Active Navigation Ltd opened with a presentation entitled Making sense from Chaos and used the meeting as a chance to explain their position in the market. The product has already been purchased by the hosts Wiltshire County Council.

Chris Tinsley who is an Information Specialist at WCC chose to present on the trials and tribulations of merging in to one council. The presentation was entitled Nibbling the Elephant and described the steps that are being taken to integrate and merge Information Management systems and methodology across the county prior to vesting day 1st April 2009.
Leanne Bridges from the Audit Commission gave a presentation entitled Implementing EDRM. This was about how the Audit Commission went about selecting and implementing an EDRM system across their corporate network. The presentation was full of insight in to the mindset of auditors!
Claire Skinner who is Principal Archivist for WCC then gave the delegates a presentation on what happens to records when the business has finished with them entitles From Here to Eternity giving a description of the type of work that archivists do.
This led nicely on to a tour of the facilities conducted by Rachel Baldwin who works as a Heritage Services administrator at the History Centre. Delegates were fascinated by the type and complexity of conservation work carried out.
