RMS New Professional Award

The RMS is very pleased to announce the creation of a new annual award: the RMS New Professional Award.

This exciting award is being supported with the kind sponsorship of the Genuine Group who are very keen to assist newcomers to the profession, to encourage the development of their skills and invite them to contribute to the ever-growing information and records management community.

Eligibility

The award is open to individuals of any age who are in their first 3 years:

  • employed/self-employed in information/records management at any level
  • engaged in full time/part-time academic study in any field of information studies
  • engaged in a combination of the 2

Prize

The prize is payment of fees for attendance at Conference (comprising delegate fees including main hotel) or, if this is already covered by employer or other sponsorship, moneys to the value of Conference Place to be used on IM/RM related books, DVDs or CPD.

The winner will be announced at Conference, where they will also be presented with a small trophy.

How to enter

Entries are invited in the form of written pieces of work. These should:

  • be between 1500 and 2000 words
  • be on a theme of either the individual's thoughts on an IM/RM theme, issue or their experience in IM/RM
  • include brief references and bibliographies as applicable
  • include a note stating how the entrant qualifies for the Competition
  • be made in the form of a Word file sent via this form

Please note that entries are limited to one per entrant. However, an individual may enter a new piece of work in the following year should they continue to qualify.

It is intended to publish entries in the Bulletin.

Judging

Judging will be by panel. In coming years, it is planned to publish entries as they are received and to invite reader comment to inform this process. This year, however, the time-table is too tight to allow this.

This year's panel will comprise:

  • Matthew Stephenson - RMS Chair
  • David Bridge - RMS Vice Chair
  • Alison North - representative of the Genuine Group
  • Paul Duller - RMS Secretary
  • Meic Pierce Owen - RMS Editorial Director

It is planned to amend the panel membership annually.

Timetable

From 2010-2011, the entry dates will run from May-the end of October, with the winner notified by Christmas. However, in this inaugural year, the timetable is a little different. Accordingly, entries are invited up to the end of December.

The winner will be notified at the beginning of February (with any necessary amendments to existing Conference bookings being made at that time).

Questions

Any queries or questions, please contact Editorial Director Meic Pierce Owen via this form.
