The Local Government Classification Retention Scheme (LGCRS)
The Local Government Classification Retention Scheme (LGCRS) is a database which provides an online, web-based Records Retention Reference Tool. The legislation contained within it will be kept up to date on an ongoing basis.
The scheme is based on the Local Government Classification Scheme (LGCS) (although this may be modified at a future date at the request of the LGCRS sub committee). The scheme has been mapped to UK legislation and regulations, IPSV (Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary) and the LGSL (Local Government Service List).
The LGCRS contains retention periods which are taken from the relevant legislation, therefore, the LGCRS does not contain retention periods which are based on “best practice”, non-regulatory guidelines or those which have been developed and agreed within individual organisations.
The LGCRS is being reviewed by the LGCRS sub committee, this is an ongoing process and the database will be updated as the review process progresses.
The LGCRS is available free of charge to members of the RMS and esd members.
