SharePoint for Information Managers

Introduction SharePoint 2007 is being widely adopted as the user platform of choice for organisations. It has established itself as the corporate information vehicle for a wide range of desktop user services including collaboration, web publishing and information sharing. SharePoint in 2007 included Records Management capability for the first time. Organisations are now beginning to adopt these features to provide their corporate EDRM solution. Microsoft is also committed to further developing this capability, and have already successfully met the USA recognised standard for Electronic Records Management DoD 5015. Developing a solid and sustainable ERM capability within SharePoint requires careful planning, design and implementation. Objectives Introduces the basic concepts of Records Management based on Records Management Standard ISO 15489. Includes overview of the basic Records Management components: Classification, Fileplan Structures, Disposition Schedules, Metadata with examples of Fileplan structures Describe a typical document and records management solution and explain how one can be implemented with SharePoint technologies. Understand the pros and cons of using SharePoint and learn when to and when not to use SharePoint. Outlines the architecture of a document and records management solution based on SharePoint technologies and the key stages that need to be followed and considered when implementing to ensure that the solution meets the business and records management objectives. Outlines the steps in developing and implementing a customer SharePoint based document and records management solution. Workshop Focus This workshop has been developed to assist e-Document, Records & Content Management Project Managers, Information Architects and Records Managers in supporting successfully delivery of a SharePoint EDRM solution.
