David Pinniger, DBP Entomology, Cookham, Berks

David Pinniger

David Pinniger is an entomologist who provides specialist consultancy and training on pests in museums, archives and historic houses. He is the pest management strategy adviser for English Heritage and many of the major museums and historic houses in the UK including; the Natural History Museum, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Imperial War Museum, the National Maritime Museum, Althorp and Historic Royal Palaces.

He is actively involved with the development of improved insect detection methods and alternatives to pesticides for the control of pests. He is also working with many organisations to collect and co-ordinate accurate data on pest incidence in the UK.

David lectures on problems of insect pests in museum collections and is an honorary Lecturer at Leicester University and the Institute of Archaeology UCL. He has run IPM training courses and workshops at many venues in the UK and also in Austria, Malta, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, USA, Singapore, South Africa, Teneriffe, Australia and Japan.

He has presented papers at many UK and international conferences and is the author of over 60 papers and publications. These include the books “Integrated pest management”(MGC), "Pest Management in Museums, Archives and Historic Houses"( Archetype 2001 and BNP 2008) and Pest Management - a practical guide” (Collections Trust 2008).
