Social Media
Social media is another disruptive technology, but this one is different. It is not a case of whether you choose to adopt it. Sooner or later, it is going to adopt you. People will be talking about you or your organisation. You may not approve. You may not like what they say. However, you have no choice. They will do it anyway. Look on the bright side. If you are active in this area, you have more chance of managing expectations and informing debate. As an early adopter, you will get credit for being ‘savvy’. You will learn about the ways in which people are exploiting the medium, and in the difficult times brought by the recession, you will be best placed to use the potential in order to maintain services. Chris Head will explain what social media is, and the relevance of its benefits for business. He will identify the risks and blocks that get in the way of adoption for business use, put them in context and suggest appropriate courses of mitigation. If not already convinced, Chris intends to make you into advocate for adopting social media in your organisation!
