Backing the future with the past

Conference 2009 S26 - Tuesday 14.00-14.50

One of the biggest barriers to progress with enhancing the user experience and ensuring records management is seen as a positive and essential part of the organisation is the potentially huge cost of migration of legacy archives to the new shiny platform.

This presentation session will show how an organisation can achieve a cost effective and efficient records management strategy by combining both traditional paper and electronic document management.

The basis for good practice that ensures business needs are fully met and supported is built on a platform of reliable and meaningful cataloguing processes, which hold true whatever the storage media and retrieval mechanism. The content of this session will be equally relevant to organisations whatever the stage of their commitment to digital or paper storage.

The benefits of electronic document management are well documented elsewhere and this session explores such technological platforms purely from the perspective of building and managing archives to ensure effective business support in contributing to satisfying user queries, making informed business decisions, ensuring compliance with both industry sector and statutory regulations and providing cost effective business continuity.

Live user experience - Hospital A&E - Large Accounting Firm HR file management

Presenting two live user experiences with Simon is Helen Donato, IT Director of Stortext Ltd; the developers of Omnidox, (winner of the 2008 DM product of the year award) The user experiences show how effective document management has been achieved through combining paper stored in boxes with electronic documents, providing the users with the economy associated with traditional storage (and avoiding costly backfile scanning) and all the dynamic delivery benefits of electronic document management.
