Continued communications: maximising information potential within computer mediated communications for business benefit

Conference 2009 S13 - Monday 15.30-16.30

Continued communication is a Northumbria University co-operative action research inquiry being undertaken by 60 co-researchers currently split into three groups; a UK group of records managers, a UK group of wider information systems users and an international group. These groups are critically evaluating how to maximise the business potential of communications created through computer mediated technologies, which incorporates any IT systems with the potential for dialogue such as email, Facebook, wikis or SecondLife.

The groups are diagnosing the critical issues underpinning the research aim, planning and taking action, and evaluating the actions. As part of the project personality profiling is being undertake in order to establish whether introverts/extroverts and other complex personality profiles play a part in determining how users engage with ICTS and records management. Innovative cognitive data analysis techniques are being undertaken to break patterns of preconditioned thinking. Records management tools and incentives for engagement with records management practice are being evolved.
