RMS Accreditation AND TNT Train to Gain
The RMS has been talking around the subject of accreditation for a number of years. At last years conference the findings of a membership survey were presented showing 85% of respondents supported/strongly supported the RMS pursing accreditation for individual members. Over the past year the Accreditation Sub-Committee has been working hard to develop the infrastructure with which to launch individual member accreditation. The session will provide an overview of the the development of a simple, transparent and optional member accreditation model, the process, criteria, and also comment on potential future developments.
TNT Train to Gain
The Challenge – In 2008 TNT were looking to train and award qualifications to their archive centre operators. Operating within an archive centre requires a specialist understanding of record management and its associated information systems. When looking to offer tuition to the archive centre operators TNT’s noticed a gap in their training and development programme. TNT had the resources to offer NVQ training in warehousing but did not have a sufficient training scheme or qualification in place for archiving. This was not only apparent for TNT but for all companies operating a records and archiving system.
What they did – TNT’s Training and Development team were tasked to research and source a relevant NVQ or qualification in records management. The Training and Development team found an NVQ level 2 & 3 in Information and Library Services which covered areas such as –
· Maintain the arrangement of material to facilitate retrieval · Enable the use of Information Technology · Process and Secure Information for Clients.
The team also partnered with Loughborough College to assess the NVQ . They designed the training around the archive centre operation in order to embed the best practises. With all this in place it provides a basis to form Archive Services Academy.
