Making search work - the benefits and the challenges

Conference 2008 Workshop 13 - Tuesday 15.00-16.00

Most organizations underestimate the human dimension of implementing search applications, and fail to appreciate how people search or ensure that the search team has the right skills and resources.

Based on over 30 years experience of search management, Martin White, author of the book Making Search Work, will present a set of ten critical success factors for effective search implementations with particular reference to records management applications. The core message of this paper will be that technology alone is not enough to make for effective search. In particular the paper will cover the skill sets needed to support effective search implementation. Other topics will include the importance of metadata management and managing access to confidential documents and records. The paper will conclude with a look into the future of search technology and the search business.
