Information Security: Disaster Recovery - Lessons Learned following a fire at an office at Stirling Council
In January 2007 a serious fire broke out at the Social Work headquarters of Stirling Council. The entire building was evacuated and cleared of all contents while recovery and restoration took place - it did not return to full use for 10 months.
Within the context of a wider business continuity response, the Council's records management team was responsible for dealing with the large volume of records affected by the fire. This session will cover the team's immediate response to the disaster, including salvage of records from the building, recovery of damaged files, and maintaining access to essential records during the period of disruption. However, the focus of the session will be on lessons learned for better management of records within the organisation, and changes to arrangements for records brought about as a direct result of the fire.
