‘Back to the Future?’
The 2009 Conference title, “Back to the Future?” reflects the current challenges faced by our delegates, their organisations and the Records Management profession itself. Volumes of information created daily are reaching staggering proportions; reports of data theft, loss and maladministration repeatedly hit the headlines; advances in technology present the paradox of new opportunities for collaboration and innovation and new challenges for management and control.
Security, integrity, accessibility … few deny these fundamental principles of good records and information management, but can we continue to rely on our traditional approaches, skills set and mind set in a world that is so changed from the one in which these traditions were established?
The Records Management Society is a vibrant community, with members from 30 countries across the globe and with active groups in every part of the United Kingdom, Ireland and several of the key market sectors. Our conference will provide a platform for these groups and members of the wider IM practitioner and supplier community to come together to address this fundamental question and the challenges that have prompted it, within the framework of four key themes:
- Standards in Practice: Help or hindrance? Fit for purpose?
- Training and Development: Management skills, careers advice, accreditation
- Technology: Who are the key players in the computer game? What’s next … and why?
- Transformation and Change: Ourselves, our organisations, our profession
